Hugh Freeze Set to Begin Auburn Tenure Amidst Skepticism

Uncomfortable Freeze Set to Kick Off Home Tenure with Special Crowd

Former Liberty University head coach Hugh Freeze is set to kick off his Auburn tenure in front of a special home crowd. Freeze, a four-time Associated Press High School Coach of the Year, was named the 31st head football coach in Auburn's 129-year history on November 28, 2022.

Auburn's Risky Move

Auburn's decision to hire Freeze comes with both upside on the field and the risk of embarrassment off it. Freeze has a history of off-field issues, including an extramarital affair that led to his resignation from Ole Miss in 2017. However, Freeze is also known for his success on the field, leading Liberty to three bowl appearances in four seasons.

At his introductory press conference, Freeze acknowledged his past mistakes and expressed remorse for his actions. He vowed to be a positive role model for his players and the Auburn community.

A Special Home Crowd

Freeze's first home game as Auburn head coach will be on September 2, 2023, against San Jose State. The game is expected to draw a large crowd, including many fans who are eager to see Freeze prove his worth. However, there will also be skeptics who question whether Freeze can overcome his past and lead Auburn to success.

Only time will tell whether Freeze can live up to the expectations of Auburn fans. But regardless of the outcome, his arrival is sure to bring excitement and intrigue to the Plains.
