A fire investigation unit from the State Criminal Police Office is investigating a suspected case of negligent arson after a blaze broke out in a metal technology factory in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district on Friday morning.
Residents alerted the fire brigade at around 2.50am after hearing loud bangs and seeing flames. The blaze started on the first floor of the Diehl Metal Applications factory on the Stichkanal.
Around 170 firefighters were called to the scene and the fire brigade issued a warning to local residents due to a large plume of black smoke rising into the sky.
